Avalanche Money Decision Game

Avalanche: The Money Decision Game

For group or individual play

Let's face it: keeping kids and teens engaged while learning about money can be kinda tough. Not only that, but in a classroom setting, kids can't really handle real money to see how their money decisions play out.

And maybe you're not ready for the full Everest Money Simulation program?

That's why I created the Avalanche Money Game – an engaging way for kids and teens to work in groups (or as individuals) to make money decisions…that then have very real consequences (both good and bad) later on in the game.

Here's how it works:

  • Groups or individuals are tasked with making a successful summit bid to Everest
  • Using the Expedition Playbook, they calculate how to spend the last $20,000 of funds (great needs vs. wants exercise)
  • Students grab a new situation deck card as they work their way up from Base Camp to the Summit on the gameboard
  • Poor money decisions result in having to draw an Avalanche Trigger Card, and 5 Avalanche Trigger Cards triggers an Avalanche
  • How to Win: Groups must get 50% of their team members all the way to the summit, and individuals must reach the summit without triggering an avalanche

Note: This is a digital product. You'll be given a link to download to enjoy immediately after purchase! Worksheets need to be printed out for your kids to use.

After the Avalanche Money Game, your students will:

  • Understand how money decisions made in the past can affect their ability to make future money decisions (in both good and bad ways)
  • Feel more comfortable working with numbers, and re-working a budget that might not come out right the first time
  • Understand needs vs. wants in a much more hands-on way
  • Learn some cool things about attempting to climb Mt. Everest
  • Ask for you to let them play it again, and again, and AGAIN (because it's pretty darn fun)
