Here’s a kid’s craft activity they can make and sell to both kids and adults alike. I think they’ll be quite successful at Market Day!
Kids and adults alike feel nostalgic about certain board games. Which is why making a bookmark out of the board – one that’s easily recognizable by them – is a great craft for kids to make and sell.

Clue, Monopoly, Scrabble, Checkers, Risk…there are a ton of game boards to choose from.
List of Materials You’ll Need
- Old, used gameboard you don’t mind cutting up
- Scalpel, or really sharp cutter
- Ribbon (here’s the red ribbon I bought)
- Hole puncher
- Pencil to trace with
- Bookmark to use as an outline
Hint: This is based on Terry’s board game bookmark idea (I found them and asked permission to use it – she said absolutely! Here’s her craft Facebook Page, FYI).
How to Make a Gameboard Bookmark
Here’s the gist of what we’ll be doing: choosing a used/old gameboard that’s recognizable by lots of people, cutting it into the shape of bookmarks, punching a hole in the top, and tying a ribbon on it with a game piece.
Let’s get started!
Step #1: Choose an Old Gameboard

I chose to go to our local thrift store and see what their game area had for a cheap way to score some game boards.
And I wasn’t disappointed.
I chose the game Clue – one that’s very recognizable by people my age, and that still has a following in newer generations, too.
Step #2: Trace a Bookmark onto the Board

Move the bookmark around to different parts of the board and figure out what area will look the best when it is cut out.
Then, trace around the bookmark with a pencil onto the gameboard.
Step #3: Cut the Bookmark Out
Get help using a sharp tool to cut along the pencil line.
Step #4: Punch a Hole in the Top

Use a strong hole puncher to punch a hole through the center top of the bookmark.
Step #5: Attach a Game Piece to the Ribbon
Tie one of the game pieces to your ribbon.
Step #6: Tie the Ribbon to the Bookmark

Thread the ribbon through the punched hole and tie to secure it.
Step #7: Package it Up to Sell
If you’re going to be selling these, you’ll want to find a way to display them on your Market Day and/or package them up for sale.
A really easy craft activity for kids that they can make as gifts for friends and family, or sell at something like Market Day at school. If you'd like to hear more about how to price your product for sale, check out this Market Day money lesson article.
