Here's a fun craft activity for kids to do. Kids can make and sell these mystery toy soaps at school Market Day or even at a local farmer's market.
Kids and preteens absolutely love surprise toys, which was the inspiration behind this Mystery Toy soap craft.

It’s such a simple thing to make, and your kids can use them for:
- Birthday party favors
- Sell at School Market Day
- Start a Kid Business
- Sell at a local Farmer’s Market
- Gifts for friends

How to Make a Mystery Toy Soap
Here’s the gist of what we’ll be doing: melting the soap base, adding dark coloring, putting it into a cube mold, letting it set, sticking the toy in the middle, then filling the rest of the mold up with more melted soap.
Let’s get started!
Step #1: Cut the Soap Base to Melt

You need to estimate how much of the soap base to melt for the size of the cube that you’re filling.
Step #2: Melt the Soap Base

I melted the soap base by putting it in a microwave-safe bowl for 45 seconds, stirring slightly (if you stir too vigorously, you’ll get a bunch of bubbles or fizz), then zapping it for another 25 seconds.
Step #3: Add Coloring
Choose a dark color that you want to use (I chose black, but a dark purple or blue would also work).
Add in your first color. I used about 30 drops.
Stir until it’s combined.
Step #4: Pour the Soap into the Cube Mold

Carefully pour the melted, colored soap into your small cube mold until it’s about halfway full.
Put this in the refrigerator for 20 minutes or so, until it has set.
Step #5: Put in the Toy and fill the Remaining Cube Mold

Once it’s set, take the toy you’re using and place it inside the mold. Fill the remaining top portion with more melted soap.

Allow it to set in the refrigerator.
Step #6: Pop the Cube Out of the Mold

The finished soap cube is pretty easy to pop out of these silicone molds.
Step #7: Package them up (optional)
If you’re going to sell these, you’ll want to package them up. You can use these plastic bags and some ribbon.
Or, come up with your own idea!
I chose glow-in-the-dark aliens (FYI: people need to “recharge” them once they appear out of the soap before they’ll glow in the dark again), but you can choose any variety of toys that you want to fill yours with!
